The SOS mother takes care about her family – maintains the household, handles the family budget, takes care about the health, education, upbringing, school and other children’s needs.
Children go to the local kindergarten and primary school; they are included in sport, dance and other clubs and activities which exist in the local community, adequate to theirs interests and talents.
The SOS mothers are specially educated persons, selected by strict code of selection (they must fulfil conditions that our law anticipates for foster caretakers; and complete practical and theoretical training which lasts for 12 months).
In caring for the children, the SOS mothers have help from psycho-pedagogical team from the SOS Children’s Village: psychologist, pedagogue, social worker and, if they need, specialists from other domains.
Each child has a caring parent The SOS mother builds a close relationship with every child entrusted to her, and provides the security, love and stability that each child needs. As a child-care professional, she lives together with her children, guides their development, and runs her household independently. She recognizes and respects each child’s family background, cultural roots and religion.
